Historic townhouse renovation | Custom wood windows & french doors
As part of the renovation of a townhouse located in a protected historic district, KDM Menuiserie supplied and installed custom wood windows and French doors. The project was carried out in collaboration with the Architectes des Bâtiments de France (ABF), the French authority responsible for protecting historic architecture, with the goal of preserving the building’s heritage character while improving thermal and acoustic performance and overall comfort.
The existing windows and doors were replaced with custom-made wood units designed to respect the original proportions, architectural details, and character of the facade. Each component was specifically adapted to the constraints of the existing historic structure.
The project included custom wood windows and French doors featuring insulated double glazing, appropriate hardware, and high-quality finishes. The new units blend naturally with the architecture of the property while improving comfort, security, and energy efficiency.
The wood windows and doors feature traditional French “mouton et gueule de loup” profiles, specifically designed for the restoration of historic buildings. These traditional interlocking profiles preserve the original appearance, narrow sightlines, divided-light details, and architectural character while providing modern thermal and acoustic performance.
Renovating a property in a protected historic district required strict respect for the existing architecture and heritage preservation requirements. Each unit was custom-made to faithfully reproduce the original profiles while incorporating high-performance insulated glazing, improved weather sealing, and discreet hardware designed to meet today’s standards for comfort and durability.
